Brrrrrrrrrr-DING
Have you ever put something in the microwave for 60 seconds and waited for it to finish? Have you watched the seconds count down? Have you ever thought this is taking too long? 60 seconds is a long time? No, it’s not but we are busy, busy, busy, our brain tells us it’s too long. Then if the meal isn’t hot enough you roll your eyes and say to yourself there goes another 60 seconds of my life.
Is your life fast? Are you constantly on the go? My 5-and-a-half-year-old runs frequently, you tell him to stop, and he does for a few seconds then he is off running again. Not sure if he knows the speed walk yet?
Your day might look something like this:
– Wake up
– Shower
– Get kids ready for school
– Get yourself ready for work
– Breakfast
– Drop off kids
– Work
– Pickup kids
– Homework
– Dinner
– Bed
Of course, this doesn’t include your other activities like church, sports practice, music lessons, your own exercise etc…
We can get so caught up in our day-to-day lives and all the busyness that days just slip by. Our lives seem to be so hectic, do we have time for Jesus?
Have you got a set time for Jesus? Morning, night, afternoon, brunch, when is your time for Jesus? I’m not a morning person, if you want me to function in the morning the people closest to me know I need coffee, ask my Children Ministry students – I always have coffee in a takeaway cup. My best time is not early morning but it might be for you.
Psalm 55:17 says “Evening, and morning, and at noon will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.”
The point is that at some stage of the day, Jesus needs to hear our voice!
Back to the microwave life, a 60-second fast-paced life is not very good for you anyway. All it really does is cause anxiety. But the Bible tells us…
“Be anxious for nothing, but in prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God” Philippians 4:6 (NKJV)
Here’s another thought. When you do have time for Jesus do you put Him in the microwave for 60 seconds? Is spending time with Jesus a 60-second deal for you? 60 seconds is really only enough time to ask for what you want and not wait for Jesus to answer. And in the end, you ask for the stuff you need from Him, while not having time to ask what He wants from you. But again, let’s look at what the Bible says…
Matthew 6:33 says “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (KJV)
Is your relationship with Jesus one-sided where it’s all you? Are you getting to know Jesus too?
With any relationship, whether it be your parents, spouse, children, friend, pastor, siblings, boss, list goes on, if you want a long-lasting relationship with them do you get to know them? Do you find the time to know what they like or dislike? Do you think Jesus is the same? Do you pray to Him every day? Do you read the Bible?
Jesus is right there, He wants to spend time with you, more than that 60 seconds in the microwave, He wants to have a relationship with you, and this is what He is offering…
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid. John 14:27 (NKJV)
So, are you going to allow Jesus in more often?
