The Ordinary Girl
I, Janie the ordinary girl or so I thought. Jesus sees me for who I truly am, I just need to trust Him, and believe what He thinks of me is more than just ordinary.
To me I was just Janie, plain Janie, I have nothing to offer, I don’t have much knowledge of the Bible, I haven’t even been to Bible College, I’m not good enough, my list goes on. So why me Lord, why did you pick me to marry a minister’s kid, let alone a missionary kid? Why are you picking me to go on the mission field, moving me away from my family, my friends and everything familiar? Why are you picking me to be a pastor’s wife, and getting me to move away again?
God has a history of taking improbable women, and ordinary people and turning them into extraordinary people.
Mary the mother of Jesus was a poor girl in an insignificant small town, with little expectations. God chose her to have Jesus, she was a woman of faith, she loved God, and she was obedient. (Luke 1:30)
There is Sarah who was barren till the age of 90 who gave birth to Isaac. She would become “the mother of nations” (Genesis 17:16) Sarah didn’t believe, she had fear and doubt but yet God still chose her.
Esther was a Jewish girl, her parents died and she was raised by her cousin Mordecai, she married a King, became queen and saved her people.
Ruth was a Moabite, she was a widow, and she remained faithful to God and her mother-in-law Naomi a Jewish woman. Ruth went to Bethlehem with Naomi even thou Naomi tried to send her back to Moab (Ruth 1:16). Ruth married Boaz and became King David’s great-grandmother and is in the bloodline of Jesus.
You might be feeling like you are not good enough to do what God wants you to do or you don’t know enough information about the Bible but you need to realise that He is there to help you. Here are a few scriptures that tell you just that.
Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV) says “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes I will help you, I will uphold you, with My righteousness right hand.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 (AMP) Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble in dread before them, for it is the LORD you God who goes with you. He will not fail you or abandon you.”
Hebrews 13:5b (KJV) …“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Matthew 28:20b (NKJV) Jesus is speaking here “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Psalm 23:4 (KJV) “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
You are not just an ordinary person, you a child of God, you need to see yourself through His eyes not your own. You are not alone out there, I need a constant reminder that I am a child of the most high God.
